In the process of researching Braided in Fire, author Solace Wales assembled a trove of images related to the village battle which took place the day after Christmas, 1944. The photographs document various events and people tied to the WWII battle—the Italian peasants of Sommocolonia and the African-American infantrymen of the 366th Infantry Regiment. 75th Anniversary of Sommocolonia Battle
Photographer Guido Mencari captured the commemorative events which took place in Sommocolonia, Italy on December 26, 2019. Author Solace Wales introduced her soon-to-be-published book Braided in Fire.

Sandra Fox under President John Fitzgerald Kennedy’s portrait hanging in the east wing of the White House. Sandra has a treasured memory of meeting him when she was 6 years old and playing in Brockton Street when JFK stopped to chat with the children while he was out politicking.
At the Medal of Honor Ceremony 1/13/1997 when Lt. John Fox posthumously received the award 52 years late. Solace Wales meets President Bill Clinton. Otis Zachary (left) will be the next to shake the president’s hand.
